Below is the fourth shabad uttered by Sri Guru Nanak DEv Ji in the thirteenth Adhyai of the Sri Nanak Parkash Granth. This is an english translation of the Shabad found in the Steek 'Gagar Cho Sagar' by Mahant Surjit Singh Ji Sevapanthi.

Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji is giving the doctor Hardas a divine sermon.

This stanza is uttered by Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji

Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji is saying, "The doctor has been called in order to diagnose me. He has grabbed both of my arms and is holding the veins down in order to see what is happening."

The poor doctor does not know that illness is given through God via the mind concept. 1.

This stanza is uttered by Sri Guru Angad Dev Ji

O physician at all the physicians you are the greatest if you are able to say what an illness is before seeing it?

The person is only afflicted by illness through the will of the Lord and for this you are looking for a cure so that the illness will disappear. The illness of separation is found in every vein.

With such medicine all afflictions disappear and the person finds peace.

You yourself are ill initially if you are able to diagnose your own illness then only after that can you call yourself a physician. 2.

Gagar Cho Sagar - Part 03

Above is a black and white image of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji sat with a number of Saints, Sidhs and Yogis.

Below is the third Shabad found in the Sri Nanak Parkash which was given as an updesh by Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji to Pandit Hardayal Ji. The ithaasak translation is taken from a steek called Gagar Cho Sagar written by Sachkhand Vasi Mahant Surjit Singh Ji Sevapanthi. The shabad is below which can be found on Ang (limb/page) 471 of the Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji.

Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji explain on the metaphorical sacred thread one should adopt rather than the materialistic one

This stanza is uttered by the Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji

To have mercy over all the beings on the earth is like cotton, to adopt an attitude of content is the cotton thread and to adopt the truth is the intertwining of the thread. Make modesty the knot in the thread to bind them.

O Pandit Hardayal Ji, if you have this type of sacred thread with you then please place it around my neck.

This sacred thread made of knowledge never breaks nor does it get ruined through the dirt of sin. This sacred thread is not affected by the fire of desire and forever remains with the individual whichever life he endures.

That being is blessed whoever gets this knowledge based sacred thread placed around their neck and goes to the next world.

The sacred thread in the age of Satjug cost four Pouliya (small coin worth 25 paisas), in the age of Treta it cost four Annas (small coin worth a sixteenth of a rupee), in the age of Dwapur it cost four paisas (a small coin of which 100 made a rupee) and in the age of Kaljug it costs four Koudia (small coin used in medieval India). The Pandit takes the value of the sacred thread, sits in the sacred area, recites a prayer to the demi god Ganesh and puts the thread around the neck of the recipient.

In the ears of the recipient they give instructions and teachings that is one if to pass urine or waste then they are to place the thread over their ears. By explaining such a short amount the Brahmin becomes the individual’s spiritual master.

When the being later gets old man dies then the sacred thread burns on the fire and in the next world the being is left without the sacred thread. 1.

By Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji

Whilst wearing the sacred thread the individual commits numerous thefts and acts of adultery. The being commits numerous false promises, lies and says abusive words.

The being commits numerous falsehoods and both day and night commit other deceitful acts.

They cut the cotton to make the thread which they take to the Brahmin so that it can be intertwined.

The goat is then killed and cooked for all the people to eat at the ceremony. At that moment everyone says to put the sacred thread around the neck of the individual.

When this sacred thread becomes old then it is discarded and thrown away. Then this sacred thread is replaced again and again.

Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji says the sacred thread will not break if it has power within it. 2.

By Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji

By listening to the name of God one should sow this seed in their mind, be belief will be the propagating leaves and the contemplation will be the cotton grown which is the truth. Use this cotton in order to make the sacred thread.

In this way the sacred thread is the form of divine knowledge which can be worn in the heaven which is the true congregation. This sacred thread never breaks. 3.

Through this discourse Pandit Hardayal Ji adopted the true sacred thread of knowledge which he placed around his heart.

Below is the second Shabad found in the Sri Nanak Parkash which was given as an updesh by Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji to Mulla Khatri. The ithaasak translation is taken from a steek called Gagar Cho Sagar written by Sachkhand Vasi Mahant Surjit Singh Ji Sevapanthi. The shabad is below which can be found on Ang (limb/page) 721 of the Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji.

This shabad is in the musical measure of Tilang uttered by Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji and is sung in the first metre (ghar).

O My Lord I am making a request in front of you. Please listen to my supplication.

O God you are the granter of sustenance. You are true, merciful and the greatest of all. O Lord you are the one who is exempt of undesirable qualities but still what are you like? 1.

In my heart I have adopted one evaluation which is that this world is all destructible and false.

I have not really understood anything within my heart. The angels of death have grabbed me by my hair but I have not realised and never though about my grave. 1. Pause.

O beloved in my final moments not my wife, my sons, my brother or my father will hold me by the hand.

When you are grabbed like a goat then in that moment there will be no one to assist you. Now tell me what your situation will be like at that moment? 2.

O true King, day and night I am trapped in a constant wave of my own thoughts.

O true King I have never performed any good actions or deeds. For this reason understand me to be like this; 3.

I am one with great misfortune, envious, blind and my mind is fearless. In my mind I never have any fear for you O Lord. There is no other insolent or ignorant being like me.

Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji is saying, I am making such a plea that I require the dust from the feet of your devotees or worshippers.4.1.

Through this discourse the Mulla was exalted and liberated.

Gagar Cho Sagar - Part 01

Above is an image of Baba Kalu Ji taking Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji for this first day of education at the school of Gopal Pandhay

Below is the first Shabad found in the Sri Nanak Parkash which was given as an updesh by Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji to Gopal Pandhay. The ithaasak translation is taken from a steek called Gagar Cho Sagar written by Sachkhand Vasi Mahant Surjit Singh Ji Sevapanthi. Each time a shabad is found in the Sri Nanak Parkash I will translate the meanings from this granth at the end of the Adhyai. The first is below which can be found on Ang (limb/page) 16 of the Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji.

This hymn is composed in the musical measure of Sirīrāg by the first King (Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji)
In this hymn Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji are giving a discourse to Gopal Pandhay on the writing the praise of the Lord.

Question (Gopal Pandhay) – “Can the praise of the Lords name be written down if there was enough paper, ink and pens? Please tell me what type of ink is required? What type of paper and what type of pen?”

Answer
All family members and friends should burn the vice of attachment. The deliberation on the matter or meditation is the grinding of the ink. Make the superior intellect your paper, love your pen, the pure conscious the writer and then ask the questions to the true spiritual master and gain the details of truth and falsehood through deliberation and writes these down.

Write the name of the Lord down on the paper along with his praise. Then write down that the lord has no end as no one can gain the complete grasp or knowledge of the divine lord. 1.

O Gopal Pandhay you should also write this account down.

When the soul enters the divine court his account is requested. At this place the name of God that has been meditated upon is the only true item that is accepted. 1. Pause.

Wherever you go you will gain praise, remain in bliss and your mind will remain in a state of enthusiasm.

O Gopal Pandhay, the individual who has the true name of God within their mind they will gain a sacred mark on their forehead indicating fame. These individual become the greatest of all.

The previous great acts grant the reward of the true name of the Lord otherwise a person without the divine name wastes his life away.

One person is born and another gets up and leaves (dies). Others give themselves great names in the world.

In one moment God transforms an individual into a beggar and at the same time transforms a person into the commander of a great palace.

When the person goes ahead then they will understand this that some people endure a torrid time as the individual without the name of God is useless. 3.

O Gopal Pandhay, Are you afraid of the Lord or not? I fear the Lord immensely as I am wasting my life trapped in the snare of desire and vices.

Those people who are names Kings, commanders of thousands of people are all going to be dust which I have personally seen.

Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji is saying, “O Gopal Pandhay when this being arises and departs to the next world then all of the false attachment and love for this world is destroyed.
